US tied security guarantees for Ukraine to the transfer of Donbas to Russia — FT
Donald Trump's administration made it clear to Kyiv that the signing of security guarantees is possible only after Ukraine concludes a peace agreement with Russia.

Financial Times, citing eight sources, reports that this agreement will most likely include the transfer of Donbas under Moscow's control.
Washington is using the issue of guarantees as leverage. According to the publication, the US is ready to promise Ukraine large-scale arms supplies for a peacetime army, but stipulates that the Armed Forces of Ukraine must withdraw from the territories they currently control in the east. Ukrainian and European officials, in an interview with FT, called such US tactics an attempt to "twist Kyiv's arms" for a compromise with Moscow.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy's team was counting on the opposite order of actions — first to receive guarantees to strengthen their negotiating position, and only after that to discuss territorial issues.
The White House called the information about coercion to surrender territories "false", stating that the US's role is only to bring the parties' positions closer, and the terms of peace depend on Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
