In the relatively new tournament, which has been played since 2018, European national teams are divided into four divisions from A to D.
A — the strongest, where national teams like England, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Wales, France, Croatia and others play).
Then comes B (Bosnia, Hungary, Georgia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland and others), then C and the weakest D (Azerbaijan, Andorra, Gibraltar, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein).
National teams are divided into groups, playing a double round-robin tournament (six matches). Group winners advance to the upper division, while those who lose are relegated.
Belarusians have firmly settled in C. Not the weakest division, but moderately uninteresting.
Teams are divided into four pots before the draw:
First pot: Iceland, Albania, Montenegro, Kazakhstan
Second pot: Finland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Armenia
Third: Belarus, Faroe Islands, Cyprus, Estonia
Fourth: Latvia or Gibraltar, Luxembourg or Malta, Moldova, San Marino
During the draw, Belarusians will get one national team from each pot, except for the third.
Matches will take place in autumn from September 24 to November 17, and for the first time in history, four consecutive games will be played: from September 24 to October 6. A special break is provided in European championships at that time.
The Belarus national team, we remind, is led by Viktor Goncharenko.
