US President Donald Trump announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to stop buying Russian oil. According to Trump, such a decision could contribute to a quicker end to Russia's war against Ukraine. He wrote about this on his social media platform Truth Social after a conversation with the Indian leader, writes "European Pravda".

Trump reported that during the conversation, the parties discussed various topics, including trade and the situation surrounding the war in Ukraine.
According to the US President, Modi is ready to give up Russian oil and instead increase purchases from the United States, and possibly from Venezuela. Trump believes this will help stop the war, in which, as he noted, thousands of people are dying weekly.
In addition, Trump stated that the countries had agreed on a trade deal: the US will reduce tariffs on Indian imports from 25% to 18%, while India will introduce zero tariffs on American goods and commit to buying more products from the US.
In turn, the European Commission plans to present proposals for the 20th package of sanctions against Russia in the near future, which may be approved on February 24 — the anniversary of the start of the full-scale war. France insists that this package be particularly harsh, including in relation to Russia's so-called "shadow fleet".
