The President of Ukraine spoke with a journalist from Politico during the security conference in Munich, writes BBC.
“There are some signals from the American side, from President Trump. They say: ‘It’s time for compromises. You can take some steps forward.’”
“We made many compromises. Putin and his friends are not in prison. This is the biggest compromise the world has already made,” Zelenskyy replied.
He explained that under US pressure, Kyiv agreed to a ceasefire without any preconditions, but Russia rejected this proposal.
On Friday, Donald Trump stated that Russia wants to make a deal to end the war, and Zelenskyy should also show such a desire.
What else Zelenskyy said in the Politico interview:
“I think Putin is also in a difficult position. I can talk to you, shake hands. And I’m not afraid. And I want to be a free man. And I want to change after politics, after everything. And I’m here. I’m a free man. And I’m younger than Putin, aren’t I? [Laughter] No-no, believe me, this is important. He doesn’t have much time. God willing, not too much time.”
In response to the question of who the US is pressuring more — Ukraine or Russia:
— I think they are trying to pressure both sides.
— What do you think about that?
— What do I think? This is too much, people. With all due respect. There are some thoughts I should keep to myself.
