According to the project documentation, construction should be completed in 2027, but the authorities are striving to do everything possible to ensure the archival complex starts operating earlier.
The new complex will not just be a place for preserving archives. It will also house archival industry organizations that will be engaged in the development of digital technologies, scientific activities, and expanding public access to archival materials.
According to Yevgeny Kovalenko, archival storage is a high-tech process that requires special equipment to maintain the necessary temperature regime, ensure fire safety, and digitize documents. Therefore, along with the construction of the building, modern technological solutions are being implemented in parallel.
The Minister also noted that the state is actively investing in the development of the material and technical base of archival institutions. In 2024-2025, four new archive repositories were opened in Gomel, Grodno, Mogilev, and Vitebsk. In addition, the reconstruction of the building of the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Phono Documents in Dzerzhinsk continues, which is planned to be completed by July 3.
To increase the efficiency of archives, modern equipment, including scanners, is also being purchased, which allows for faster digitization of documents and ensures their reliable digital storage.
