"President Trump's success in bringing the sides of this conflict closer together has led to significant progress, and we are proud to be working under his leadership to stop the killings in this terrible conflict," Whitcoff said.
He added that "both sides have agreed to inform their leaders and continue working towards an agreement."
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, who heads the Ukrainian delegation in Geneva, said that the negotiations focused on practical issues and the mechanics of possible solutions. He added that after the joint session, the teams continued their work in groups by areas.
National security advisors from the UK, France, Germany, and Italy arrived in Geneva and will hold meetings with the Ukrainian and American teams.
The second round of negotiations is scheduled for this morning.
