Goethe-Institut in Exile ceases operations

The German cultural program "Goethe-Institut in Exile" has concluded its activities. Representatives of the institute announced this on social media, noting that the decision was made due to the complex global situation and lack of financial resources, writes Reform.news.

According to program representatives, increased pressure and limited resources no longer allow them to continue their work in the previous format. Therefore, all events planned for February 23, 2026, have been canceled.

At the same time, the institute intends to continue supporting artists in emigration and involve them in international cultural projects so that their voices are heard in Germany and worldwide.

The program was created as a platform for meetings, exchange of ideas, and creative performances for cultural figures from countries where cultural institutions were forced to cease operations due to war or censorship. It helped tell stories about the experience of forced relocation, life on the cultural border, new beginnings, and the diversity of artistic communities in the diaspora.

Thanks to this initiative, events dedicated to Belarusian culture were also held: discussions, concerts, performances, exhibitions, film screenings, book presentations, and other events. In March 2024, a large-scale festival of Belarusian culture was organized, bringing together creators who were forced to leave Belarus and lived in various European cities. More than fifty representatives from various fields of art participated, from theater and cinema to literature, music, and philosophy.
