Nausėda said that Cole asked him about the possibility of resuming political dialogue with Minsk
«My answer was crystal clear,» said the Lithuanian president.

The President of Lithuania announced that the US Special Envoy for Belarus, John Cole, raised the issue of the possibility of resuming political dialogue with Minsk during a meeting.
«During our conversation, the question was raised about what opportunities exist for political dialogue with Belarus,» the head of state told journalists on Tuesday, as reported by LRT.
Nausėda noted that he warned the American representative about excessive trust in the regime's rhetoric.
«My answer was crystal clear, because we know this neighbor and specifically this dictator well,» said the Lithuanian president. «My message to Mr. Cole was to interpret any steps by the Belarusian authorities very cautiously, as by their nature and due to their identification with Russia, they are practically inseparable from the Russian state.»
The head of state warned that Belarus might try to split the unity of NATO countries and achieve divergences in the policies of the United States and the European Union regarding Minsk.
The President of Lithuania emphasized that efforts to free political prisoners in Belarus are welcome, however, for Minsk, this is merely a tool to achieve political goals.
«We reminded our American colleagues that the EU's sanctions regime against Belarus remains in force, it has been extended for 12 months, and, at least during this period, there are no legal or other grounds to talk about lifting or softening sanctions,» Nausėda noted.
«According to my information, neighboring states to Lithuania, which are considered alternative logistical channels for Belarusian fertilizers, adhere to a similar position,» he added.
