18-year-old former political prisoner revealed he is a relative of Tsikhanouskaya. He was detained while traveling to fight for Ukraine
Aliaksei Kaplich was detained while attempting to fly to Georgia. He turned 18 years old the day before his detention.
«On March 30, I turned 18, and on March 31, I was already detained at Minsk National Airport — I was on my way to defend Ukraine as part of the third assault brigade,» said Aliaksei Kaplich.
He said that he had decided for himself that as soon as he turned 18, he would immediately go [to defend Ukraine]. He was detained at the airport. At passport control, the border guard said: «Let's go to another camera, this one isn't recognizing you well.»
«I entered the office, they threw a bag over my head, immediately face down on the table,» he says.
The first interrogation took place the day after his detention. «For 12 days, I lived in an office. None of my relatives knew where I was or what was happening to me.»
Aliaksei was sentenced in the summer of 2025 to two years of imprisonment under Part 1 of Art. 361‑3 of the Criminal Code (participation on the territory of a foreign state in an armed formation or armed conflict, military actions, recruitment, or training of persons for such participation).
The young man thanked everyone who helped him, and for giving his girlfriend such a birthday present — his release.
He also confirmed that he is a distant relative of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, but this did not affect him in prison.
