"The Most Humane Decision." Two Elderly Inseparable Friends Euthanized on the Same Day in a British Zoo
In the Newquay Zoo in Britain, a capybara named Johnson and a Brazilian tapir named El were euthanized on the same day. These animals were long-time friends and lived together in the same enclosure, according to the BBC.

According to zoo staff, both capybaras and tapirs are calm and social animals, so over their years of living together, they became deeply attached to each other and were almost inseparable.
In recent months, nine-year-old Johnson and twenty-year-old El had serious age-related health problems. As a result, the administration decided to perform euthanasia. It was carried out on the same day so that neither animal would be left alone after the loss of their companion.

Zoo representatives noted that saying goodbye to both at once was difficult, but they considered it the most humane decision. The deaths of Johnson and El were called a great loss for both the staff who cared for the animals and for the zoo visitors.
