It is noted that the restrictive measures against Belarus remain unchanged in their scope. According to the Lithuanian side, the sanctions are related to internal repressions in Belarus, support for Russia in the war against Ukraine, and hybrid actions against EU countries.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys stated that the persecution of civil society continues in Belarus, people are held in detention on political grounds, and new hybrid attacks are being recorded. He also noted the use of Belarusian territory for military purposes. According to him, EU countries maintain a unified position regarding the need to continue pressure.
According to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, 312 Belarusian citizens and 57 legal entities are currently under EU sanctions. Their assets in the European Union are frozen, EU citizens and companies are prohibited from conducting financial transactions with them, and individuals on the sanctions list are prohibited from entering EU territory. Economic restrictions affect the financial, trade, energy, transport, and other sectors.
The decision will be valid until February 28, 2027, with the possibility of further extension.
