Zelenskyy in New Year's address: Peace in 2026 is possible, but there are conditions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in his New Year's address that the war could end as early as 2026, but for this, international pressure on Russia must be significantly intensified.

According to Zelenskyy, a peace agreement is already almost ready — about 90 percent. However, precisely those remaining 10 percent will be decisive for the fate of Ukraine, Europe, and the entire region.

The President of Ukraine noted that he would like to announce imminent peace now, but cannot do so yet. At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine is doing and will do everything possible to achieve peace.

Zelenskyy stated that Russia could quickly end the war, but does not want to.

Therefore, according to him, the only effective path remains strong pressure from the international community. He emphasized that in its history, Russia has never ended wars voluntarily — only under coercion.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed concern that there are still those in the world who believe Russia's words. In his opinion, such naivety poses a serious threat to international security.

He noted that sanctions are already harming the Russian economy, but this is not enough. For the war to stop, pressure must be maximal: Russian oil supplies must be completely blocked, factories must be stopped, and the aggressor must lose the ability to conduct hostilities.

Zelenskyy also stressed that modern weapons in Ukrainian hands would be additional proof that peace has no alternative.

In conclusion, he stated that with swift and decisive actions by the international community, Russian aggression could be stopped as early as 2026.
