Colombian President Gustavo Petro promised to "take up arms" after threats from US authorities and the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. He wrote about this on his X page.
"The USA is the first country in the world that, throughout human history, has bombed a South American capital. Not even Netanyahu, Hitler, Franco, or Salazar did that," he wrote. "The constitution obliges the armed forces to defend state sovereignty. Although I was not a soldier, I know about war and covert operations. I swore never to take up arms again after the 1989 peace agreement, but for the sake of the nation, I will take up arms again, even if I don't need to," he said.
Petro emphasized that he is not an illegal immigrant and does not engage in drug trafficking; he owns only one house, and all his income has been made public. According to him, Latin America must unite, "otherwise it will be treated as a servant and a slave, not as a vital center of the world."
“Friends don’t bomb,” noted Petro.
Yesterday Donald Trump spoke out about Colombia.
"Colombia is also very sick. It is run by a sick person who loves to produce cocaine and sell it to the United States, and he won't be able to do that for long," he said.
In response to a question about whether there would be a US operation against Colombia, Trump stated that it seemed like a "good option" to him.
