Mark Rutte urged EU countries that are "sitting on stockpiles of interceptors" to transfer them to Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on European Union countries that have significant stockpiles of interceptor missiles for air defense systems to transfer these weapons to Ukraine. He made this statement on January 26 at a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Security in Brussels, writes "European Pravda".

According to Rutte, some EU states still maintain large arsenals of interceptor missiles, and the NATO leadership believes that a significant portion of them should be transferred to Ukraine, as this is now a clear priority.

The NATO Secretary General noted that he knows exactly which countries have such stockpiles, but cannot name them publicly. At the same time, the Commander-in-Chief of the Joint Armed Forces of NATO in Europe fully supports the idea of transferring these weapons to Kyiv.

Rutte drew the attention of MEPs to the fact that dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones are launched every night at Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, and other major cities of Ukraine. Their interception rate has decreased, primarily due to a shortage of missiles for NASAMS systems already in Ukraine. A similar situation exists with Patriot systems, which require constant replenishment of interceptor missiles.

According to the NATO Secretary General, there are two ways to solve this problem: supplies within the framework of American military assistance or the use of existing stockpiles in the national arsenals of European countries.

He urged MEPs to influence their governments and insist on the transfer of these weapons to Ukraine, noting that some states have already started acting in this direction.

Mark Rutte emphasized that it is a matter of life and death every day, as well as the protection of Ukraine's critical, including energy, infrastructure.
