13 Russian athletes have received invitations to compete in a neutral status at the Olympic Games in Italy. Their names were published by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

These are alpine skiers Yulia Plyashkova and Semyon Efimov, lugers Pavel Repilov and Daria Alesik, figure skaters Pyotr Gumennik and Adeliya Petrosyan, cross-country skiers Saveliy Korotyolyov and Daria Nepryaeva, speed skaters Ksenia Korzhova and Anastasia Semyonova. Nikita Filippov has been invited to compete in ski mountaineering, and Ivan Pasashkov and Elena Krylova in short track.

Russian athletes will compete at the Olympics in a neutral status, which they still need to confirm, and only in individual disciplines.

15 Russian athletes participated in the summer Olympics in Paris in 2024. Thus, the upcoming Winter Olympics will feature the lowest number of Russian athletes in modern history; fewer participated only once before, in 1908.

At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, there were 212 Russians who won 32 medals (5 gold, 12 silver, and 15 bronze).

Russian sports were initially banned due to doping scandals, and are now banned following the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Therefore, for example, biathlon and hockey federations have prohibited Russian, as well as Belarusian, athletes from participating in competitions.

Belarusians will also have a minimal presence at the Winter Olympic Games, only seven.

In Beijing 2022, there were 29 athletes. There, Belarusians claimed two silver medals.

The Olympic Games will take place from February 6 to 22 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
