The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant continues to receive electricity from Ukraine's unified energy system, despite a night attack on energy facilities. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

On the night of January 20, 2026, Russian troops launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on energy infrastructure, including nodes providing electricity to facilities in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
Thanks to the prompt and coordinated work of energy services, all facilities of the State Specialized Enterprise "Chernobyl NPP," including the New Safe Confinement and spent nuclear fuel storage facilities, are now operating stably in normal mode, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy.
The radiation background both on the station's territory and in the exclusion zone remains within normal limits. The station has a sufficient fuel supply and ready backup power sources in case of new attacks.
Currently, there is no threat to the population or the environment. NPP personnel and energy services continue enhanced monitoring of the situation.
Previously, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant had completely lost connection to the external power grid due to a large-scale shelling.
