Lukashenka persuades Americans not to bomb the drug mafia fleet, but to negotiate
Donald Trump is leading a full-scale military campaign against drug trafficking — the US Navy and Air Force are bombing vessels that Washington declares drug-terrorist. Alexander Lukashenka, in a conversation with Newsmax TV journalist and wife of special envoy John Cole Greta Conway Van Susteren, urged Americans to abandon missiles in the fight against drug traffickers. "We need to negotiate," he says.
What should the US do with the flow of drugs going from Venezuela to the US, the journalist asked Lukashenka.
— Are you sure there's such a flow of drugs there, about which so much is said in the US today? — he parried.
— Fentanyl comes from Mexico, but other drugs, produced in Colombia and other Latin American countries, still go to the US through Venezuela, — she replied.
Lukashenka said that he had discussed this very issue with the American delegation the day before.
— Drugs, like many other things, human trafficking, prostitution, weapons — these are the realities of our time. We must fight this. But you won't defeat drugs with missiles, — he assures. — This is war, this is a struggle. You rightly started this fight against migration and against drugs. In this, Trump is doing a good job raising this topic. We will fight against this. And after us — we will go, Trump, I, your John, we will go to heaven — and our children will fight against this calamity. This is a new phenomenon in a new era. Missiles won't defeat this. We need to negotiate, we need to define joint measures of struggle.
Lukashenka drew a parallel with Belarus and Europe: he said, we fought drug trafficking, and Europe closed its borders — we will no longer protect them.
— Should I, in this situation, protect Europe? Why? They are suffocating me, and I should protect them from drugs. It's the same with you. You shouldn't suffocate Venezuela. You must find this compromise, — he proposes.
He says that drugs are not a Venezuelan, not an Afghan phenomenon, so "we need to think, not fight."
— This is a planetary phenomenon that we need to fight. Not with missiles! We need to look for, perhaps, new methods. We need to think, not fight. And I, Greta, do not believe that such a volume of drugs going to the United States of America is coming from Venezuela. I don't believe what Trump says on this issue.
— Don't you think President Maduro is personally interested in and involved in drug trafficking to the US? — asked the correspondent.
— You don't have such facts, and neither do I. I don't think that's the case. Maduro is not a drug addict, I know that for sure, — Lukashenka concluded.
