A Powerball lottery participant from Arkansas won a jackpot of $1.817 billion in a drawing that took place on Wednesday before Christmas, ending a three-month period without a grand prize winner, writes AP
The winning numbers were 04, 25, 31, 52, and 59, and the Powerball number was 19.
Final ticket sales increased the jackpot amount more than previously expected, making it the second largest in US history and the biggest Powerball prize in 2025.
The winner also had the option to receive the prize as a single cash payment of $834.9 million.
"Congratulations to the newest Powerball jackpot winner! This is truly an exceptional, life-changing prize," the website quotes Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, as saying. "We also want to thank all the players who participated in this series of drawings: every purchased ticket helps support state programs and services across the country."
The prize was drawn after 46 consecutive drawings in which no one matched all six numbers.
The previous jackpot-winning drawing occurred on September 6, when players from Missouri and Texas won $1.787 billion.
Organizers noted that this is the second time a Powerball jackpot has been won by a ticket sold in Arkansas. The first time was in 2010.
