They met at the editorial office of the newspaper "Hrodzenskaja Praŭda".
In 'Long Road Home' (Daŭhaja daroha dadomu), Vasil Uladzimiravich recalls that "Iryna Mykhailivna... became the first and a very meticulous critic of everything I wrote. Now I am very grateful to her for that, although at times I was offended then."
Iryna Mykhailivna typed Bykau's works when he was still an author little known to anyone — and continued to do so for many years. 'The Dead Don't Feel Pain' (Miortvym nie balic'), 'Sotnikov', 'Sign of Trouble' (Znak biady) — were typed by her.
In late December, she was hospitalized with a hip fracture and a heart attack.
