Head of Kuzbass apologized for accusing mothers of the death of infants in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital
"I am sincerely sorry that my words caused pain to someone," said Ilya Seredyuk.

"Speaking about the tragedy that occurred, I touched upon complex medical aspects. At the same time, I understand that in such a situation, it is especially important not only what is said, but also how it sounds. I am sincerely sorry that my words caused pain to someone," Ilya Seredyuk wrote in his Telegram channel.
He added that he himself decided to delete the recording of the broadcast, in which he stated that the mothers themselves were responsible for the death of infants in Novokuznetsk maternity hospital No. 1, because they allegedly had bad habits.
Yesterday, the official spoke out in defense of medical professionals, stating that the version of medical error was incorrect, as each child had their own doctor, and they could not have made a mistake simultaneously. He also dismissed assumptions about the presence of an nosocomial infection in the hospital.
Seredyuk then placed the main responsibility for the incident on the birthing mothers themselves. "The tragedy that occurred concerns those babies, most of whom were premature. Some weighed 600-800 grams at birth. Some mothers were not observed at all during the prenatal period. <...> It's sad to say, but expectant mothers not only neglect their health, but some also have bad habits. Of course, it is unacceptable that they arrive at the maternity hospital by ambulance in a state of intoxication," Seredyuk said.
Nina Astanina, head of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, wrote a few hours before Seredyuk's apology that "in the place of the country's leadership," she would have raised the question of the governor's dismissal.
On January 13, it became known that nine newborns died in Novokuznetsk maternity hospital No. 1 during the January holidays.
