The owner of the new 'independent' portal launched in Belarus has been revealed

Behind it is an IT company known for its video surveillance and identification system, investigators at Buro found out .

A new media outlet, Times.by, has appeared in Belarus. The publication positions itself as a "multimedia internet resource about the most important and interesting things in Belarus and the world." The outlet belongs to the company CJSC "Times Media Group," which was registered in July 2025.

According to a 'Buro' source, last year the owners of the 'Synesis' group of companies decided to create their own major media outlet to compete with the remaining non-state publications in Belarus.

The CJSC (Closed Joint Stock Company) structure does not require the disclosure of shareholders through publicly accessible databases. Thus, the exact owners of the company remain unknown.

However, 'Buro' uncovered a fact indicating that Times.by is linked to the 'Synesis' group of companies. During the registration of the times.by domain, the email address [email protected] was specified. This domain is used for corporate email in structures associated with 'Synesis'.

'Synesis' developed the Kipod facial recognition system, based on which Belarusian authorities commissioned the company to develop the "Republican Public Security Monitoring System." In 2020, this system was used to identify protesters. At least one public case of the system's use in repressions is known — the arrest of anarchist activist Mikalai Dziadok.

Following the events of 2020, the company and its co-founder Aliaksandr Shatrou were placed under international sanctions. In 2023, they lost their lawsuits in the EU, where they attempted to challenge the sanction decisions.

The chief editor of Times.by is Alena Krutalevich, former chief editor of BelTA, who received a personal commendation from Aliaksandr Lukashenka in 2025.

The director is Aliaksandr Martsinkevich, former deputy head of the HTP (High-Tech Park).

Currently, at least eight journalists are known to be working for this publication. These are former or current employees of outlets such as Sputnik Belarus, "Minsk-Novosti," Tochka.by, BelTA, "SB. Belarus Today," and others.
