A new beetle species has been found in Belarus. Belarusian scientists (Pryshchepchyk, Aliaksandrovich, Sinchuk) reported this in the Russian journal Far Eastern Entomologist, as noted by the channel «De facto. Belarusian Science».
The species Troglops albicans, new to the fauna of Belarus, was found during research in the Pripyatsky National Park in 2025 — it was located under the bark of a dry fallen oak. The male beetle has a body length of 3 millimeters.
Troglops albicans is mainly distributed in Central Europe, but also occurs in Southern and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and the Middle East. Thus, Belarus may represent the current northern border of the species' distribution.
