According to the Israeli side, one of the strikes led to the elimination of a commander of an armed Hamas unit, who is considered responsible for the death of hostage Noa Marciano. She was kidnapped from the Nahal Oz military base during the attack on October 7, 2023, and later killed in the Palestinian al-Shifa hospital. The Israel Defense Forces also announced the destruction of two more commanders — one from Hamas and one from Islamic Jihad — during strikes in various areas of the enclave.
The Palestinian side claims that the airstrikes were allegedly carried out on tent camps where civilians were located. Amidst the hostilities, the evacuation of patients through the "Rafah" border crossing into Egypt, which recently resumed operations as part of the US-brokered ceasefire agreements, was temporarily halted.
Hamas accused Israel of violating the agreements reached. The Israeli side, however, states that after the return of all hostages — both living and deceased — the main goal became the complete disarmament of Hamas. Israeli military also reports constant shelling by militants in the area of the so-called "yellow line" and claims that armed groups use ambulances to transport people and weapons, and hide among civilians in displaced persons camps.
