What can cameras at petrol stations record? Siarhei Kamornikau, Deputy General Director of Belorusneft for hydrocarbon raw material supply and product sales, explained to av.by that their petrol stations have an internal video surveillance system designed to maintain order on the station's premises.
"However, issues of offenses are handled by internal affairs bodies; they have their own methods and cameras, which are not connected to our video surveillance system," he says.
"Our cameras only see the petrol station's territory and serve to ensure order, not to record offenses in a legal sense."
The cameras installed by the petrol station cannot scan for valid vehicle inspection.
"In the republic, there is a separate public safety monitoring system installed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is this system that uses special cameras to record various violations. Our video surveillance system, however, is intended solely for internal control and ensuring order at the petrol station," Kamornikau noted.
