Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya started a Threads account. What are Belarusians writing to her?

"Could you like my comment? I haven't had likes from a president yet."

"On my way to Davos. Started a Threads account. I'm new here, but I heard there are many wonderful Belarusians. Who do you recommend I follow?" —

This was the debut post in the new social network by the leader of the democratic forces of Belarus, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.

Fellow Belarusians, currently abroad, actively began offering their services and advertising their businesses.

"Belarusian syrki in Poland, of course."

"If you suddenly need a make-up artist, I'm here."

"I recommend following us! And if you need furniture in Poland — you definitely won't regret it."

"If academic singers are needed in Warsaw for new events — we are always ready."

"Subscribe to me. And if you decide to go for training, you'll immediately know who to go to."

"I work as a dentist in Warsaw with my dad. A dynasty of doctors from my great-grandmother, we help even in the most difficult cases."

Tsikhanouskaya responded to some replies

"You can follow me. I write in Belarusian here daily, expanding the space of the Belarusian language with the help of Threads. For me, Belarus and the Belarusian language are paramount!" — suggested one of the subscribers.

"You are such a smart cookie," — Sviatlana expressed her admiration.

"Follow me — a confectioner in Warsaw with my heart in my native Homiel," — wrote a Belarusian woman, attaching a photo of her products.

"Artistic creation," — the politician evaluated the work.

"Good day, I will make you a delicious tiramisu in Warsaw with Sicilian mandarins," — another master promised.

"Luxury," — Sviatlana replied to him.

To the invitation: "Me, of course! I am a genealogist and I search for ancestors for Belarusians," — she briefly reacted: "How interesting."

"I help with university admissions worldwide for English-language programs. A useful contact in case of thoughts like: 'What do I want to be when I grow up,' for both children and adults," — another user shared.

"Wow! Belarusians, save the contact! Useful," — Tsikhanouskaya advised.

Belarusians also left quite sweet and unusual comments

"Greetings! And look at my kitten," — someone suggested and posted a picture of a pet.

"What a beauty," — Tsikhanouskaya was touched.

"Me ;) Why? Because you appeared in my dream today))) I wanted to take a selfie with you, but you refused. I think you should now take a selfie with me in reality))) To rehabilitate yourself for that Sviatlana from my dream."

"I hope we'll meet and I'll have the opportunity to rehabilitate myself, I even feel a bit awkward," — Sviatlana joked in response.

"It's nice here, Madam President) Could you like my comment?) I haven't had likes from a president yet))", — a subscriber asked. Tsikhanouskaya granted the request.

People readily offered advice on running a blog:

"Thank you for reaching out directly to people! There are many users here directly from Belarus; for us in emigration, it's interesting and useful to see what's really happening at home. But now there are also many bots here. Don't hesitate to ban them — it's not worth giving them a platform."

"The main thing is to write yourself, not through Franak Viačorka. He manages his own page well," — was heard in the comments.

"The main thing here is not to look at what you don't like, otherwise the system will suggest similar things. And block bots and trolls :)" — another user advised.

"It seems almost all Belarusians have gathered here, so you'll definitely like it!" — Sviatlana responded.

"Welcome, Sviatlana Hieorhijeŭna! This social network is already half Belarusian, so we invite you, it's quite cozy here," — wrote one of the users.

"Hooray, finally Twitter can be permanently deleted!" — rejoiced one of the Belarusian women.

"Nooo, we'll be here and there!" — Sviatlana assured.

Of course, there were also pointed questions and requests for help

"My Belarusian passport expired two years ago. I use Polish travel documents, but it's not the same at all... Will passports for Belarusians in emigration finally be ready so we can travel freely and feel like people? Because even Poles themselves perceive this travel document as something incomprehensible, plus it has to be renewed every year..."

"What should those whose Belarusian passports expire this year do?" — people asked in the comments.

"My dad is political prisoner Yauhen Tadevušavič Buržynski. (...) He recently turned 60, and he already has many illnesses. Please help to free him!" — the daughter of the imprisoned man appealed to the politician.

There were also questions like "Are Draniki with or without flour?". "No, no. I remember what happened after that question on Twitter," — Tsikhanouskaya noted.

"Tea or coffee?!!!" To which Sviatlana replied: "Sea buckthorn tea."

"Complete the phrase: Belarusians don't say... Belarusians say... (insert your option instead of dots)," — another user suggested.

"Belarusians don't say 'blue Monday,' Belarusians say 'general listlessness and indifference to life'," — she replied.

Naturally, there was some negativity too

"Are you the president of which republic? Haven't seen you in Minsk. It's fine here without you, without war and TCC (Territorial Recruitment Centers), and if you came to power, it would repeat itself sooner or later like there," — comments of this kind were left by opponents.

So far, in Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's account, besides the welcome post, two more have appeared. In one of them, the politician published a photo showing her intently studying the responses and advice of Belarusians under her first post.

Another post is dedicated to her working days at the Davos summit: Sviatlana showed a photo of her snack, accompanying it with an ironic caption: "Michelin-starred 'quick and tasty'."
