Siarhei Khilman, the head of Belhydromet, reported on Radio-Minsk how the weather in Belarus has changed over recent decades.
«Over the past 37 years, since 1988, the average annual air temperature in the country has increased by approximately 2 degrees. Daily observations and statistical indicators of the average daily temperature show that warming has unambiguously occurred throughout these decades.
Our cold period is warming on average by 0.6 degrees over 10 years. The temperature of the summer period rises slower — by approximately 0.5 degrees»
— Khilman explained.
There are disputes regarding the causes of warming: some consider it a natural phenomenon, while others blame anthropogenic human activity for everything.
«As for precipitation, we see that in the mixed phase the amount of precipitation is approximately the same: during the summer period, rains become shorter but more intense».
