The Ministry of Health of Belarus is preparing a complete ban on abortions in private clinics. This was announced by Minister Alexander Khadzhaeu in parliament.
According to the minister, such a norm is already included in the draft Health Code. The authorities cite "low effectiveness" of private clinics' work with women as the main argument. Khadzhaeu stated that pre-abortion counseling works much better in state institutions and more often helps to convince a woman to keep the child.
In addition, the parliament is discussing the possibility of reducing the term during which pregnancy can be terminated at the woman's request — from 12 to 9 weeks. The minister called this issue complex and noted that it requires "thorough elaboration" by medical professionals.
